Do you ever crave that neutral, chic, everyday look, that can look good behind your laptop on a Zoom call yet look even better on your errand to the grocery store? The past four years I’ve been working from home and have struggled to find outfits that are cozy for the winter, but will also make me look presentable to my coworkers on a call, in person or not. I must say, year after year, my wardrobe grows with these top staples that can be intertwined every day to never appear dull or boring, but rather put-together and collective.
Clothing staples: by definition this means pieces that never go out of style and can be worn in and out by day and night, going with different tops and bottoms but also your favorite handbag and pair of shoes.
These clothes are meant to be worn often, especially if you work from home but go into the office here and there like me. Who’s to say we can’t wear a comfy sweater to work and also while lounging at home? It took me a while to figure out exactly what wardrobe I wanted but I’ve solved what pieces work each year especially in the brutal cold.
Let’s start with the basics:
Bodysuits. You really can’t go wrong here. Under a sweatshirt — perfect added touch to the lazy outfit. Under a cardigan — casual work in the office look. Under a jacket/blazer — now you’re ready for the business call. These Amazon selects feel like butter on my skin, the neutral colors match so much and can be worn with so many different looks!
Button Downs. I’ve been such a fan of the classy, sometimes sexy loose button downs that just sit well with anything. Jeans, leggings, even sweats. They are so incredibly comfortable with their airy and baggy feel, yet look chic against anything. They can be dressed up with some booties and jeans yet also casual with leggings and uggs.
Jackets. I LOVE a good jacket, black leather for dirty martinis with the girls, or cotton tan for day brunch. Jackets really just spruce up any outfit from dull to fun-and-fancy!
Jeans. I can have a whole separate blog post about jeans in itself (& I probably will), but for the sake of winter must-haves, here are a few of my favs. Jeggings are perfect for the ankle-high boots in the winter while the dark wash jeans go with everything. I try to avoid holes for this season due to the cold and in-office etiquette, but you can never go wrong with Levis and Nine West.
Leggings. Black, grey, and a neutral tan, you CAN’T go wrong. Butterluxe is just as good as Lulu for the 3rd of the price. WFH girlies… you need!
Long Skirts. These are perfect for the office or the option to just not wear pants that day. Linking here some that can go with so much!
Cardigans. Suuper comfy staple for WFH days or laid-back errands. These can replace heavy coats that are a drag to put on sometimes.
Vests. Added layer, additional accessory piece, can’t go wrong with a puffer for that 20 degree weather that matches everything from sweats to pants.
White Sneakers. Who doesn’t love a good tennis shoe? White sneaks go with everything and anything, super easy to put on and quickly run out of the house with!
Boots. Booties, black, tan, white, leather, velvet, shiny, matte… nothing beats this season to capitalize on some fun boots. Chelseas are a personal fav, but so is a slight heel to jazz it up for a night out.
Flats. Now these are when you have those in-person meeting days but can also be slid on with a comfy outfit! No need to go crazy, flats can make laid-back outfits work with pretty much everything.
Comfy Shoes. Last but certainly not least, we can’t forget the slippers, uggs, bearpaws, etc when you just need a foot break. These are what I’d wear every single day if I could — and I know you probably would too!
